The State of comedy

It seems to me that there isn’t much good comedy on tv these days.

As an infant goose, primetime comedy commenced around 9 through to 11, on various days of the week, (the majority of the time being a friday) consisting of gems such as shooting stars, NMTB (with the 50’s throwback grease ball) The fast show and League of gentlemen. After which point id dabble in a ‘trashy’ european excursion.

Shows like little britain, catherine tate show and most channel four American addopted comedies, are as rusty and out of date as the tinned laughs usedfor these shows. Canned laugher is for partridge and partridge alone.

There is Hope however.

I feel by taking a leaf out of Harry Hill and to an extent Brooker’s book, we can laugh again.
By watching shows that file under every other catagory bar comedy, and place them in a comedy context, mirth with spread like a goose’s wings. we just need to move back a couple of hours to soaps, food programs and the news. I am strictly not reffering to laughing at jeremy kyle, as every ‘person’ on that show is so close to retardation it would be a hate crime to laugh at them.

i have recently discoved the comedy genious or John Torode and Greg Wallace on Masterchef.

After Watching Three Episoads of Masterchef Last night, Im Prepared to say that it is most deffinatly up there with the greats, and here is the raison d’etre.

Raison the first.
Sexual inuendos are ten a penny. Greg and the contestants being the leading source for this.

Here is Greg moving is eye away fom the food and onto the ‘prize’

Another example of taking this show out of context and into comedy, comes from the very woman Greg is foaming over. Her Name is Charlotte and by day she is a PA.

At the begining of the show, Charlotte claims “i just want it so badly” and “im hoping to go all the way”. Seems like Greg overheard this, but also shows you can find comedy if you want to.

Other hilarity consists of the comic banter between Greg and John. Below are a few Quotations and im stuggling to determine who is victor in laughyland.

Greg And John On Crumble

Greg: This dish stood out for me
John: But does he Stand out enough?
Greg: Best dish in the room for me
John: Ok Sold, he’s in.

Greg On plus and minus points.

”The chicken’s moist, there’s sweetness from the peppers, but theres too much garlic. So there’s plus and minus points here”.

Greg on Pears & Poetry

“Lets see how you fair with the pear”
“The Pear is so juicy, it’s pear juice!”

John on jam.

“The Jam needs to be more Jammy!”

I know this is basically the idea of Hill and Brooker, but sadly neither of them appear on tv 24/7. But if we take their ideals, and put in a bit of effort we’ll be able to enjoy a good comedy everyday. Unless of course you’re a fan of Lee Evans.
